People with aphasia sometimes have trouble staying active in conversations. Even in groups like DaZy Aphasia Centre, people with aphasia can sometimes have a hard time getting a turn to talk. Researchers analyzed conversations from multiple different conversation groups. They realized that group facilitators help people with aphasia participate in two main ways.
Facilitators can help by asking a person by name to answer a question, or by asking everyone to answer the same question.

Researchers analyzed conversations with people with aphasia to find out how people with aphasia get through communication issues. They found out that when you talk to people with aphasia, and they get stuck, you should give them time. That extra time is often enough to help people with aphasia figure out how to communicate what they want to say. Patience is an important part of talking to people with aphasia!
